These stainless steel Chimney Caps are the most popular chimney caps from the Gelco lineup. Available in a range of sizes, the stainless Gelco Chimney Caps come with a lifetime warranty on manufacturer's defects and rust, regardless of what type of fuel is used. The chimney caps are manufactured with thick 18-gauge steel and an 8 inch high, one piece screen has 3/4" mesh spark arrestor screen to help control sparks. On windy days, chimney draft can be affected and if sparks exit the chimney they can ignite nearby trees, leaves and other flammables. If your home is located within a wooded area, or you have a tree near the chimney, a cap with a spark arrestor is strongly recommended. These handsome, quality chimney caps feature the traditionally fine workmanship of all Gelco Chimney Caps, such as the special cross break that gives the 24-ga. chimney cap lid extra strength and durability.
Another reason for a chimney cap is to prevent migratory birds from nesting in your chimney. Migratory birds are considered endangered and cannot be removed by law (click here to view the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918). Chimney sweeps are not even allowed to remove a nest that's being used by any migratory bird. Only after the animal or bird (and it's babies) leaves your chimney, either on its own or through forced eviction, can you remove the nest. It is at this point that you must have the chimney cleaned to remove the nesting materials, and then install a chimney cap to prevent their return. The screens built into the cap is designed to allow proper drafting yet keep out uninvited wildlife guests.
A chimney cap also prevents other animals such as raccoons and squirrels from entering into your house through the chimney and causing damage to the interior of your home.
Since chimney caps come in a variety of standard sizes, we will need to come out to measure the top of your chimney (where they will be installed) to determine what size you need, and if you have a flue tile at the top of your chimney to mount a standard cap, or if you need a custom cap before we can quote you a price. If we have cleaned your chimney, the size will be on the safety inspection that the sweep gives you at the end of your cleaning.
Do you have smoke blowing back down into your home on windy days? Does your fireplace not vent as well as it should, even after a proper cleaning? Then a wind cap is the solution to your problem. Wind caps resemble Roman Soldier helmets, and are angled down with a fin on the opposite side. These caps are designed to do two things:
These stainless steel Wind Caps are made of 24-ga.steel, and will come with or without a screen mesh to keep animals out. If you have a wind or draft problem, a wind cap is the solution you need.
Custom caps are rain or wind caps that are for chimneys whose top dimensions are not the standard sizes, and require a custom manufactured cap. In this instance, we would come out to your home and measure the top of your chimney where the cap will be attached, then manufacture a custom cap to fit. These stainless steel caps are made of 24-ga.steel *Please note that Custom Caps are not returnable once the cap has been ordered from the manufacturer. Because they are custom, they are made to your chimney's specific dimensions, and cannot be installed on other chimneys or modified.
PLEASE NOTE, CAPS ARE NOT RETURNABLE. IF YOU ORDER A CAP TO BE INSTALLED BY US, YOU MUST COMMIT TO IT AS IT HAS TO BE PREPAID FOR AND SHIPPED FROM THE EAST COAST OR, OR A CUSTOM
